Top 90s Songs

The music of the 1990s brought on a change in the music industry that is still heard today. Types of music that had previously just been for niche audiences including alternative, rap, country, and soul became mainstream.

Alternative rock burst on to the scene in the 90s thanks in large part to the band Nirvana. They released the song "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in 1991 and it became one of the biggest songs of the decade. The term grunge came to be applied to many bands of the early 90s such as Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice In Chains and Pearl Jam, who all found big success after the rise of Nirvana. Alternative rock went mainstream and was played on MTV and Radio Stations all over the world.

Boy Bands weren't invented in the 90s, but the late 80s and the 90s saw the trend explode. Whenever you turned on MTV or the radio you heard songs from Boyz II Men, New Edition, the Backstreet Boys, New Kids on the Block, All 4 One, Color Me Badd or many others. Boy banders in the 90s embraced the clean-cut, cookie-cutter image that made girls swoon. From the meticulously coordinated outfits to the precise choreography, this was music cranked out by the corporate run record labels.
